Foot and mouth

Seems there's an outbreak in Surrey. Last time it cost the taxpayer much more in compensation to farmers than the industry is worth in the first place.

So how much did it cost and what is the livestock industry worth?

You'd have thought they'd have come up with a footless mouthless GM
super-sheep by now, and thus eliminated at a stroke the waste of bullets-
which could then be used instead on Baghdadis and Brazilian tourists......
unless the Perfidious Frenchies have had them banned by applying the Evil
Fiendish CAP, which ouitlaws any sheep in the EU except the famous
Avignon Garlic-eating lorry-overturning variety...

[why isn't this man in the Government?, I hear you all cry.....]

A couple of billion in compensation for an industry that's worth 750 million at most.

This is absolutely true, there are People (slaughtermen) still being paid a big fat retainer for contracts they signed during the last foot and mouth, they are paid to kill so many cows a day even now, just in case there is another outbreak..

We should all stop eating that 'organic' shit and eat chips and white
bread instead.
Fuck the environment, I say, FUCK the environment, Ashley.

Perhaps if we did eat 'that organic 'shit'' more there'd be fewer pressures on the farming industry that lead to outbreaks of F & M in the first place.

If we stopped subsidising the last loss-making nationalised industry we
have left, you mean....

What's 'nationalised' about it?

National Union of Farmers, plus 'big farma', to coin a nickname.
Restrictive practices all over the place- and we're not even in the Frenchies
league there.
Abolish CAP, let the market dictate and put in place a financial parachute
for the small operators who will inevitably get bankrupted. It might
prevent a few of the horrendously-common recent farmer-suicides.

Get orff moi land.
