Spielberg's War of the Worlds

Watched this last night. Need to know who stole the script? Has to be his worst film ever. Even the SFX were poor by modern standards. Looked like he lost interest half way through. Wonder if the post 9/11 meant he couldn't show any large American cities been wiped out?
Only scary-ish bit was when the crowd waited for a train to pass the crossing and it went past totally ablaze.

1950s origianl is a masterpiece, up there with Forbidden Planet as all time great SciFI movies.

So should have Tom Cruise - and I don't mean the character he was playing !

if you watch the extras on the dvd spielberg says that the film was to be centred on the main character's experiences through out the attack or what happens through his eyes.i don't think the intention was to make it like independence day.

Somehow I just knew reading this thread that it was going to be knocking the movie. Does anyone around here like any movies at all? Good Fellas got a kicking...Die Hard 4 did too...What a miserable bunch of gits on this forum.

It seems no one likes anything around here.

Goodfellas is one of the greatest, if not the greatest film of all time. Pizzas aren't too clever though.

Hmmm...Ok...But it did get a kicking a while back as if it was cool to diss good movies. Wjhat is a good movie anyway? its all subjective to the individiual right?

I loved War of The Worlds and certainly dont think Spielberg would ever make a half arsed movie EVER! The guy loves making movies. I know he wouldnt stop talking about it when I met him many years ago.

I was beginning to feel is it supposed to be the new cool thing to hate everything around here.

Negative threads have been around for ever in a day on this forum
About 9 to 1 by my account

Its much easier to slag something off in a over-generalised way than make any meaningful statement based on something other than a feeling

Takes less brains/effort I guess

As for what makes a good film...a great story

Character development versus Special Effects about sums it up for me

Many films over use SFX as a trade off for lack of character development IMHO
