Anyone see this when the Beeb adapted it six or seven years back? Great story (Iain Banks), great cast (Patterson, Capaldi et al).

Top class drama is an area where the Beeb excels. Best ever? Edge Of Darkness, for me. But I Claudius (featuring Peter Bowles as Caractacus), State Of Play, The Singing Detective and many more are all worth the time taken to watch them.

Ms Nardini, yeah.

Edge Of Darkness is a classic. Channel 4 recently did a "greatest drama series of all time" thingy---mainly to push the series of The Sopranos it was about to show (so guess what came number one).

But Edge Of Darkness took the runner-up spot. More than 20 years after it was made, it's still utter class, nervy as hell, and with a plot and dialogue and cast that would make even quality drama producers weep with envy. And all written by the man behind Z Cars.

And Simone Bendix could put a stone in my bone any time she liked!
Crow Road was very funny. Some of Bank's stuff is a bit hard going, espec the SciFi. Peter Capaldi is very under used by the TV and film world.

As an aside no so sure if he hails from the lovely Tuscan town of Barga, where hundreds of families moved to Britain and set up Ice Cream Parlours, Chip Shops and Tailors. In Carlisle we have Casselvecchi, Renucci, Pieri, Tognarelli, Marconi, Bandoni, Fontana .........Paulo Ntini the singer hails from Barga and each year they have a Scottish Festival.

I Claudius was superb. Think just about every fine actor (or went on
to become one) going was in that series
