ITN Newquay report

Watched ITV News at c. 1045 tonight , with the report about the appalling fire in Newquay.

The reporter seemed to think he was Edgar Lustgarten- or Robbie Coltrane's character Edgar Bloodlusten- from his tone. All that was missing was photos of corpses.

It is a shame how much this once great news provider has dumbed down since the days of Burnet, Gall, Parkin, et al.

We may as have Magoo and Dibble doing the news- with Buttsie [remember him] masturbating behind them as they read. And a blonde weather forecaster getting a DP from Magoo and Dibble as she reads how things will get hotter as the evening goes on.

It's not just ITN. I was watching a Beeb bulletin the other day, and the live report (the Warrington murder, I think it was) would not have been out of place on Newsround. The reporter seemed to think he was talking to five-year-olds.

It's the sort of thing Sissons and Simpson, Humphries and Paxman have been warning about for years.

Do you remember when Chris Morris satirised this kind of news delivery? Unfortunately it's come to pass !

Like most great satirists, Morris was spot on.

Just listened to Radio 5..the woman doing the breakfast show has just asked (the cousin of the man beaten to death for remonstrating with some scumbag that threw chocolate in his relatives car) 'How do you feel about what happened?' This was after greeting him with a very cheery 'Good Morning!'

..do they learn this shit in their Media Studies University Course...?

Of course then there's Sky where all the female reporters have to be pleasing on the eye...

That just about sums it up. Instead of using seasoned, experience pros who know how to do it, they go for eye candy, as the only thing that matters is 'the numbers'. I seriously think news programmes should be excluded from any viewer numbers counting schemes.

Eye Candy is exactly what the female newsreaders and weather presenters are. There are some exceptions, but on the whole, bints like Kaplinsky and Bruce are there for the phwoaar factor.
Even the anchor roles for the blokes are for pretty boys instead of no-nonsense presenters.
Michael Aspel recently stated that senior presenters like him are pushed aside to make way for lightweights, and that watching Fiona Bruce read the news is like 'watching his wife gossiping over the garden fence', and I think he has that nailed perfectly

I've got more time for FB than the others mentioned above.
I just hope the planned legislation gets through quickly so that all the
competent professionals sacked or demoted by the various news-
broadcasters on age-related grounds can sue the shit out of them and
force a re-think [though I hesitate to employ the word 'think' in any TV-
related context].
