Hey

OK dont really know who to ask if im honest. So gonna try here (i know a few military historians loiter amoungst us)

I have got it into my head that these two MKs of Spitfires were deployed during the Korean war but I cant seem to find any refference to it.

Can any one out there shed any light on this please? Im trying to out which (if any) squarons flew them.

Welshfella....if memory serves me right helped me out with my last military history question. C'mon Taff

Oh btw I have been looking on this site now and again for a little while

A little gung ho at times but a very useful and informative site.

Thankyou in advance

If they were deployed in Korea, it wasn't by the RAF:

The RAF ? The Post War Era (Korea ? about halfway down the page)

"No Spitfires saw service in the Korean War....".
From this [dunno how accurate it is, of course].

I believe the RAF's Spitfires were last used in the Malayan Emergency.

The RAF was not much involved in Korea, though the RAAF was. British air power was furnished by the Fleet Air Arm operating off light fleet carriers which had been built for the war with Japan. Although they only operated piston engined aircraft such as the Sea Fury they actually managed to shoot down a few MiG 15's.

It's an interesting fact that the RAF have not shot down an enemy aircraft since the end of World War II. Ever since, in Korea, Suez, the Falklands, it's been the Fleet Air Arm which has shot down enemy planes. Maybe it's just as well two new carriers are on order?

A Google does come up with references like..." A total of 20531 Spitfires in 40 modifications were built. It remained in service with various air forces for many years after the end of the war and the Seafire naval variation was last used in combat by the Royal Navy from the carrier HMS Triumph in the Korean war.
