Guns and teens

The suggestion is that the gunman on the bike was a kid in his mid teens. Of all the things to copy from the US, gangs and drive-bys they choose. The world is fucking insane.

Lara, it was three boys playing football in a pub car park, if the BBC TV news is to be believed, when an older kids rides by on his bike and fires three shots. We don't know if they are Chavs, or whatever. But gang culture is taking off in the UK, and guns and knives being used by teens are a much more common occurrence.

Pinning labels on people and calling for the human equivalent of pest control is not a solution. I don't know what is, but that isn't.

We need to be honest here; and gun-crime among youths seems to be
predominantly an Afro-Caribbean preference. They may be merely
temporarily ahead of the game compared to other ethnicities, but there it
is.
My Southall friends tell me knives are the preferred weapon among the
dominant ethnos there; as I understand it white kids are pretty Catholic
in their tastes- whatever they can get their hands on will do.....

What a sad sad thing...the young lad that pulled the trigger will no doubt be looked after whilst inside..(if caught) given a plumbing course, own sky box etc..probably better than he can expect from his miserable life now..he'd do better by being caught..strange but true...

and yet again some family of a young kid have been left devastated...this country makes me sick sometimes..

Chavs? Is that another name for cannon fodder?

Part of the problem is when talking with a social worker friend of mine is that its easy to put it down to these individuals being cold, heartless and evil but the reality is worse than that, some of those kids ( not necessarily the one we are referring to in this thread) have no hope, or even love for themselves, therefore their anti social behaviour is going to be the way it is.

How can you respect another mans life when you dont even respect your own?

I understand everyones anger and rage as deep down I feel I could throttle and brain a guy like that easily but my sensible side tells me this is just perpetuating the problem. Not that I agree with a softly softly molly coddling approach.

Maybe bootcamp with a drill instructor like R. Lee Ermey in Full Metal Jacket is a good start.

The sad thing is that is kids wanting to 'look 'ard'.

It may be simplistic to refer to Thatcher's Children- but look, before that we were happy with Blue Peter or Magpie; Victor or Tiger; marbles or gobstoppers.

Now- and with that slogan of Get Rich Or Die Trying , kids in some areas seem to just want to be gangsters as the only way that they can be like their heroes on TV.

What did they say about Harlem?- that the only ways out were via sport or showbiz?

Where did the attacker get the gun?

If we have a situation where teens are arming themselves how should the unarmed Police force respond?

What it could come to is Vigilante groups formed to tour the streets after dark...

..or if the military are short of staff, then National Service.Been there, done it,and leave them to me at 3am in the morning, full pack on Dartmoor.

The place would be alive with screams for their mummies.
