I thought open prisons were (a) for non-violent offenders and (b) as a kind of halfway house for long-term inmates about to be released back into the community.
In which case this bloke was clearly a (b).
So if he was jailed for life in 1996 (only 11 years ago), doesn't it show what a complete joke the "justice" system is in the UK?
Life should mean life. Not 11 years (or even 12 or 15 years).
