although it's almost certain to remain a mystery of lucan proportions unless madeleine is found - dead or alive - the portuguese police are, quite logically, treating the mccanns as prime suspects.
although a tough one to call, my gut feeling is that he probably IS the guilty one, albeit the likelihood being of an accidental nature, and that kate was at least witness to whatever tragedy unfolded in their apartment.
however, without either of them likely to split the other, the chances of any prosecutions to follow seem highly improbable.
hope i'm wrong and the infant turns up unharmed.....

the longer this goes on the more i feel the mccann's have tried to hoodwink us all
however, my gut feeling is that although the general concencus is that, if anybody, kate is the guilty party, i still reckon she's covering for the old man.
he just seems a bit too smug for my liking....

but lets not jump to conclusions based on thin air

We had a similar witch hunt in Australia called the Azaria Chamberlain case(1980)
which resulted in a jail sentence followed by an acquittal

It taught us one valuable rule...don't jump to conclusions

And that business about travelling all round Europe, even visiting the Pope, in order to find "information".

We're all being Monday morning quarterbacks, as the Yanks would say. The only people who can properly comment on their behaviour since Madeleine's disappearance are those who have been through similar situations, and police or mental health professionals who have seen people in such circumstances.

The police and Portuguese authorities know how much of a case they have against the McCanns. The parents themselves know the truth of the accusations they face. The rest of us, no matter how much we read about it, are outsiders indulging in guesswork and expressing theories about real people and their lives.

I know what I believe, but I'm in no better position to state what the truth is than anyone posting here, or the newspapers. I fear Maddie is dead, but if there is any truth to the claims being thrown about then she won't have suffered---and considering what we feared some months ago, that's a relief.
