This is probably one for Mr56

Does any one else remember this? I used to watch it as a kid (well some times. It was actually after my bed time)

As far as I can recall it was DLT intoducing songs with video's filmed by the Beeb.

In the days before "Youtube" or even "MTV" it was a great way of hearing some great tunes again.

Some of my all time favorite tracks I heard for the first time on this show. The one that all ways sticks in my mind is "Lola" by The Kinks

Cheers

BB

Yep remember this..ran for one series I think.DLT is so full of himself...he'd just been reduced from peak time radio and this series must have been a sweetener from the BBC.

DLT did a similar format on the BBC's World Service called 'A Jolly Good Show'.

Yeah, I remember it. Early / mid '80s, IIRC.

The idea was to showcase classic songs that had been hits before the advant of the promo video era, and hence had never had their own "official" video.

So the Beeb stepped in to fill the gap.

The one song that I clearly remember being featured was the Walker Brothers' "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Any More", for which the Beeb had cobbled together a video of survivors emerging from a nuclear fallout shelter after the Bomb had dropped - moving stuff.

The one I recall most vividly is the one they did for 'Itsy Bitsy Teenee Weenee Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'

That Walker Bros one seems a bit like one of the piss poor films
you see at some karaoke nights with the lyrics over the top of them

Who makes that crap and what makes anyone in their right
mind want to buy those films?

Yeah maybe now it wouldn't stand the test of time.

But we're talking about 20-odd years ago when (a) no-one had even heard of karaoke and (b) the Cold War was still on and there was all that palava about medium-range nukes in Europe.

So at the time it had some resonance.
