Dies aged 79. Wrote theme tunes for last of the summer wine and
blankety blank. Also musical director for BBC at eurovision

A piccolo is mentioned on the beeb website but I can't confirm if he
ever played the drums - Steve it's over to you

R.I.P Ronnie.

The piccolo piece was composed for 'Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em'.

Isn't it funny that the piccolo features in the Russell Brand promos on BBC2. Did Ronnie Hazelhurst do a double tracked piccolo with Peter Buck on 'Losing My Religion' ?

Respect to Ronnie H though .. maybe not as versatile as Tony Hatch, but he's definitely a name.

He did the themes to most BBC comedies from the late 60s to the mid 80s...most spectacularly the full orchestral theme to The Two Ronnies. Loved that.

It has to be said, his themes for Some Mothers.., Last of the Summer Wine, The Two Ronnies & Are You Being Served? are superb (and sometimes the best thing about the show!)

Last of the Summer Wine being the only one of his themes still being played to 'new' material...I noticed he retired to Guernsey- I would presume his retirement package with Auntie included a large lump sum for their purchase of any residual copyrights for his tunes.
