With the Cameron and the Tories getting their act together for the first time this week, it looks like Gordon has bottled an early election.

Correct. There will now be no election on 1st November as some pollsters had confindently predicted.
Moreover, the NuLabour spin machine leeked the idea of an election on this date to the media, but recent negative opinion polls forced Brown to cancel the proposed general election.

Gordon Brown never mentioned an election it was all media gossip. In fact in interviews he tried, in vain, to get away from the subject but an election was all interviewers wanted to talk about.
We have a terrible media is this country that deals in tittle-tattle and gossip and trys to make news rather than reporting news.

No, Downing Street was feeding the media. It's blown up in his face a bit, but it was stupid to contemplate an election this early. Major held fire after replacing Thatch and it worked out okay for him. Goggs just has to get himself a soapbox.

Yes we do, and nine times out of ten this suits this government down to the ground, for this 'tittle-tattle' fills up the brains of the masses, convenient when you consider the thoughts of our fellow citizens could then turn to matter of actual importance.... More often than not the 'tittle-tattle' is started by the governments own advisers.

Maybe Brown never directly mentioned an election, but the NuLabours' highly polished spin machine, with it's constant drip drip of (mis)information, certainly racked up the idea of an autumn election.
