According to researchers at the Royal Economic Society, if prostitution were legal in the U.K., it would add more than a quarter-million pounds a year in tax revenue to the country's coffers. Each year, more money is spent on prostitution than on going to the cinema, the study revealed.
The researchers collected their data primarily from Internet sites and concluded that prostitution is a $1 billion (US) industry in the U.K.
The findings might be of interest to the British Treasury as it attempts to clamp down on the black economy and raise extra taxes. The government's advisory group on women's issues said that economic issues shouldn't enter into any debate on prostitution.

Fuck the 'Wimmins' advisory group! Every one an ugly, po faced, Guardian reading, public sector, middle class dyke I'll wager! And bollocks to any other Government advisory group, as they are all tarred with a similar brush. I didn't vote for any of those fuckers and they don't speak for me, or anyone I know.
I'm sure some in the Treasury looks longingly at all that lovely taxable income that is being sucked up by the black economy and would love to totally legalise prostituting and brothels to get their hands on it. But they can't because of Labour back bench 'Wimmins issue groups' Tory back bench 'Family Values groups, 'The Daily Mail and all those other self serving cunts who only speak for comparatively small groups of nutcases, and not real people out on the street.

Most beautifully and eloquently written, Dibble! As we all are aware, anything approaching an adult debate on this subject is a long way from happening, particularly so as long as this vocal, and sadly misguided, minority continue to spout their propaganda at anybody bored enough to stop and listen to them.
Just as a small aside on the subject of revenue raising: When Self Assesment was introduced with a ?100 penalty clause for late returns, one million people, in fact, were late with their returns, and consequently the government netted one hundred million pounds in one day without lifting a finger! As long as scams the like of that are available to them, the 'lost' revenue of pros. is small beer, I'm afraid.
