Protection part 2

Having got myself involved in this embroglio and being taken to task for my remarks, I have decided ro make a statement. It has NOTHING to do with sex
In another life I spent quite some time in Nigeria, The Congo, Zimbabwe and S. Africa.
This consisted of several trips for different reasons which are not important here.
The point is that contrary to all the bleeding hearts "findings"
Destitution/malnutrition/all manner of desease were prevalent and had been for countless years. This was due to to malnutition mainly and institutional violence, perpertated by their very own rulers - who are all, without exception,- a bunch of thieves.
The onslaught of HIV was a wonderful/marvellous thing for especially Drug Companies (check your portfolio) and various other bodies who jumped on the bandwagon - few of whom had ever been to Africa prior to this fashionable cause.
Someone wants to take me to task for this is of course welcome, publicly or privately. However, he must speak from certain /personalknowledge and not from crap/pap publicity.
I rest my case

What is your point?
Are you saying that HIV/AIDS doesn't exist.
Or the pandemic in Africa isn't actually happening but is a conspiracy by the multinational drug companies to exploit the [sarcasm] vast wealth [/sarcasm] of Africa.

No, he isn't: and two wrongs don't make a right.
Marcus has a valid (though none too relevant, AFAICT) point about the wealth (minerals/agriculture/workforce etc., etc.) of the African nations being criminally abstracted by a succession of venal leaders, and the further exploitation of same with the connivance of Western multinationals.
You and I rightly took him to ask over the 'puffs' allegation, but in this case he's right on the money.

Ok point taken, I share the same view Nigeria for example should be one of the ricest contries in the world. But I think the problem lies more in the 1st worlds explotation of their massive natural resorces and the amout of opertunities for corruption due to that rather then the leader themselvs, untill we pull the rains in on companis like Shell nothing will change in Africa.

Well, yes, but aren't we straying more than a little from the point (whatever that was)?

Just amazing how performers using/not using condoms has mutated into a debate on African economics.

I know this topic is now well o/t, but as I started the original protection thread just wanted to respond.
I'm no 'bleeding heart' but for the record I grew up in Africa and have been to probably a dozen different countries on the continent. It's true that local corruption has destroyed the infrastructure of many African nations but you also have to look at the debt burden engineered by the West, the support for every kind of arsehole with a gun by the West, and a systematic dismissal of the plight of many African peoples because 'they brought it on themselves'(funny how that rarely applies to the Balkans).
HIV is an entirely separate issue except for the fact that its spread has been exacerbated by the institutional anarchy that still prevails in the majority of African nations. I'll get off my soap box now and return to lurking around the edges of the forum.

although, you can always carry on the debate by email, of course.
