I was browsing in a charity shop the other day and picked up the complete series on vhs of Station X {The Codebreakers of Bletchley Park} i remember watching this on the telly a few years ago before i had a computer but watching it again now it has even more signifigance because of course Station X was the birth place of the Worlds first progammable computer ,which was the brainchild of a person called Alan Turing who continued with his work on computers after the war untill 1954 when he topped himself after being found out to be gay which of course was illegal back then and he was seen as a security risk, if he could see where his earlier work on comps has taken us he would probably be turning in his grave with the ammount of porn being downloaded thesedays which is all thanks to his wartime invention, So Bill Gates you can go and fuck yourself as the computer was a British invention and you Yanks have just jumped on the bandwaggon !idontbelieveit!

One day Britain will acknowledge what it did to one of its greatest genuises. It'd better, because history will sure as hell judge the country.

As for the uses computers have been put to, well, it's better that he didn't live to see it. Robert Oppenheimer knew, in the moment of his "triumph," what the consequences would be---and it haunted him.

The story of Station X was never supposed to have been revealed but in 1970 someone broke the official secrets act and the story was made public, it has since been estimated that by cracking the egnima code it shortened WW2 by at least 2 years thus saving many thousand and maybe millions of lives if you take into account the Holocaust. Alan Turings computer played a big part in all of this but by the time the secret was out he was long dead and never got the recognition that he deserved !sad!
