Hi i had a virus on my PC a while a few months ago and a tech guy on another forum helped me get rid of it. He told me to get a firewall but when i looked for one i couldn't find one that supported Windows 98 and like an idiot i just left it.
Over the last few days my PC's been running slow and i just got a popup asking to scan for malware and it's told me i have a problem.
Can anyone help me find a firewall for windows 98?
Thanks for any help.

Like asking to find a needle in a haystack given the varying opinions about firewalls
Theres a few reviews here, most are 98 complaint(unless they say otherwise)
Just remember firewalls are only one small part in being secure
although there is no such thing as 100 percent secure
When I was using windows 98 i followed the security instructions here
and very rarely had a problem except with the firewall being over protective

For Win 98 suggest you use last version of Zone Alarm that is Win98 compatible. I think it is the 6.1.744 version.
Just disable updates.
Download from
It works fine with AVG antivirus.
