You have the ability to turn them OFF in XP so maybe you can turn them ON in Vista.
I have not got Vista, but this is how you turn them OFF in XP. Maybe you can see if the reverse works in Vista to turn them on.
Open the Control Panel and choose "Performance and Maintenance"
In the"Performance and Maintenance" area choose System.
The "System Properties" window is displayed.
Choose the "Advanced" tab then in the "Performance" area press the "Settings" button.
The "Performance Options" window opens.
Shown are a load of options you can turn on or off.
Scroll down and find "Use common tasks in folders"
This is ON in XP (a tick) so those options are displayed in the folder.
Maybe it is OFF in Vista (if the option is there at all, I know they have redesigned the user interface).

Aren't these options available by right-clicking the files?

also if i use home network set up wizard or another programmes and you get the option to create a set up disk for a home network or whatever else and i say yes a pop up says no drive detected fo removable media or no floppy drive detected so i guess my dvd rw drive is not been detected but if i put a dvd in the drive it works and plays absolutely fine so the cd/dvd drive is ok
thank you
thanx guilbert

because the silly bastards hid them in the name of progress
On the 1st page of vista for dummies by woody leonhard useful forums for questions
it says "where the fuck did they put it"...very apt I'm afraid
One hint was about the help menus(file/edit/view/tools/help) that used to always be available in XP...says to press the alt key and they will reappear
good luck

Its always the same old song with Windows
XP wasn't without flaws when it was first launched
Their still finding them even today 5 years later
From what I've read Vistas main problem is the incompatibility with older forms of software and the need for copious amounts of memory to run quickly(2GB minimum I've been told)
