Superficial is TV's speciality.

I've said before that Big Brother could be an interesting social and psychological experiment, but it wouldn't appeal to a mass audience, and so it needs gimmicks, it needsoutside interference to liven it up, and it almost totally ignores the psychological harm it might be causing the tubes stupid enough to take part.
