Today I was buying somthing in woolies and had to soeak to the card people.when I got home I called my bank who told me at 4.30am a payment at a petrol station in canada was declined !!
well I was at home in bed not in canada !

A similar thing happened to me recently. I used my card at a local Newsagent's shop and a couple of days later had a call from my CC provider telling me Visa had frozen the account. Basically because of comprised security at the shop, had to get a new card and account number.

My mate has had to change his visa 3 times in 2 years. Every time the bank send him a letter, and then give him one of those numbers that are like 30p a minute to get a new card sorted out, and he's left on hold for 15 mins.
The banks get money from these numbers being called, and so they're earning money from someone hacking your card. Call me a synic, but it actually pays the bank for you to have your account hacked now and again, now these premium rate numbers are everywhere.
Could these banks be just cancelling your account, and telling you fibs just to make you call their premium rate number, to make a little money out of you? Ok, they might only get a few quid, but 100,000 people a year is a tidy sum.

I'll find out as I see him tomorrow, but I know the second time he had to change his card it cost him over ?4 in calls - and the bank gets a cut. It was the Alliance & Leicester Bank, and certainly not a local rate number.
