MSN Help

Post by randyandy »

Folks

I tried to log in to MSN today, it won't let me and as usual I've no idea why.

I get the message box with my email address in and blank password box but when I type my password in I get retry.

Did this for a while and got nowhere so decided to try using a complete new hot mail account but when I try to log in and despite changing to the new email I still get retry with the email reverted back to the original that won't give me access.

Last night I was getting forgotten password options (with a security box needing letters or numbers to type in it ) but when I typed them in I got a message saying there was something wrong with either the email address or what I typed but I am not even getting that option now.

I think it has something to do with Firefox but not sure what and when I try using Internet Explorer and the thing doesn't accept it I notice that it is reverting back to Firefox to tell me.

I've looked at windows help which isn't helpful and want to get rid of everything and start fresh (if needed).

Has anyone got any ideas on how to sort the problem out please?

I am having one of those days when I can't even remember how to stop using Firefox and turn it back so Internet Explorer is my only sign on option.

!idontbelieveit!

Thanks

Andy

Perhaps MSN was down?

Not sure to be honest Trumpton, it's still doing it.

Hopefully Jacques or one of the other PC experts will see this and let me know.

Think it's to do with Firefox (and pop ups) but not sure.

Its a bastard of a problem and from what i can see no clear solution in sight

I had real difficulties for 6 months with both IE6 & firefox(2/3 years ago) getting into both yahoo & msn.Had real issues with cookies which no one could fix and then one day they just fixed themselves. No idea how

Not being a expert I'd say everytime you try to sign in,the old/stale page which failed is being re-read

Theres always the possibility that the site is at fault
especially if you've used several different browsers after cleaning out your
browsers history & cache using something like
ccleaner

Maybe the mr fixit program

Have you tried posting your problem on the firefox forums?

That was my thought also.

So let's start by clearing your cache in Firefox:

Tools > Private Data

In the Clear Private Data window that appears, uncheck all checkboxes except for the Cache checkbox.

Click on the Clear Private Data Now button.

When the Clear Private Data window disappears, all of the files saved from browsing will have been removed.

And Now IE:

Tools > Internet Options > General > Delete Files

Select 'Delete All offline Content' and then select OK and then OK again.

quis custodiet ipsos custodes

I use WinClear. It does exactly the same.

Thanks Deuce

I've not done anything apart from the cleaning that Jacques has suggested.

I tried again but it still wouldn't let me and to top it all after deciding to just create everything again its now telling me its something to do with windows service pack 2 not being installed?

Could have sworn I did that ages ago (when it first came out) but will do it again.

According to windows it takes hours so will do it late on or even over night.

Thanks again

If your able try using another computer to sign-in
even if you do what i do and give your details to a trusted friend to
sign in on their computer. At least that way you'll be able to pinpoint whether the fault lies with your PC or the website/your account

I take it you've been through this page with a fine tooth comb?

I clean installed many times but none of it helped.Mind you that was windows 98 2nd edition so heres hoping you have better luck

I get that input xp service pack 2 message wa wa all to often
Only been using XP for 4 months so not all that familiar with hows or whys
I'm sure jacques will explain it ;-)
