Or to misquote Ace (the band, not the esteemed poster): how long can this keep going on?
Since Jonone wanted to have a say on the former favourite for the England job and his efforts at sorting out the mess at St James's Park, here you are.
For what it's worth, if someone who did such a good job making sure Bolton was a frightening place to visit for the Premiership big boys can't sort out the laughable mess Newcastle call a defence, I doubt anyone can. It's been the same for decades, through numerous managers. A decent attacking side at times, with a fanbase that feels it should be a top-six team, let down by the sort of defensive mistakes a Sunday league pub outfit would be ashamed of.
Will Sam be given time to do a root and branch repair of the Toon? Will he be shown the door? Or will he jump into the next biggish job that becomes available? Since that looks like being Sunderland, or Middlesbrough, perhaps not.

Re: Allardyce . . .
To be honest Big Sam's brand of football probably isn't suited to what the Newcastle Fans expect to see, it does look to me that the majority of the players are not trying too hard for him either (they seem to have a history of that). But surely it can't be the that hard to buy a solid centre back or two to shore up the defence. I don't see the managers job at Sunderland becoming available anytime soon as Roy Keane is there for the long term ... unless you know something I don't.
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
Re: Allardyce . . .
No, when it comes to football, I doubt there's anything I know that you don't. Just a feeling that Sunderland aren't going to survive the drop. Derby are doomed already, and Sunderland's defence---which makes NUFC's seem tight---are sending them the same way.

Newcastle will never do anything, or ever have the 'right' manager, until they accept they aren't one of the big clubs anymore, and don't have an automatic right to stay in he top league, let alone have European qualification every year.
Spend a few years developing and building and then go for a top eight push, but they need to sop thinking that because they have a lot of ultra-loyal fans and a past, they deserve future success. Try a slow fix for once.

We have need of you again, great king.
Re: Allardyce . . .
Not far off the mark that peter, I have ties with Newcastle and so does Maggs so he will know what I,m on about, Sam has done nowt wrong. He's a good manager, the problem is the clubs. Newcastle culture is to blame, fans want to behave like players and players want to behave like fans, you can go down to one particular pub on the quayside most times of the day and see the line up of impressive motors belonging to the players parked up, whilst they are inside on the lash, the precident probably being set by Sheperd who was no stranger to having a good time himself (allegedely with call girls in spanish brothels). The club seems to attract the so called 'bad boys' of football because it has a reputation of a young vibrant hard drinking culture, as does the city, I doubt there are few cities in the world that can boast as many eating and drinking establishments as Newcastle, pour all that into the pot along with young guys on ?40k a week throw in the professional football hunter girls and fuck all else to do and you can see the problem, you could argue other cities are the same, even Manchester, but they are not. Newcastle is a one off, a great place to be! but not if your a football manager, I could go on with even some first hand debauchery I have witnessed personally, but I wont as I,m prone to a bit of it meself, but you should blame the culture- not big Sam.

Re: Allardyce . . .
The way the Geordies treat Big Sam is a disgrace. Not even Mourinho !bow! could turn that shower of shit into winners.
Newcastle is simply a poison chalice and don't make me laugh they're a big club.Because they have a home gate of 55,000?.Big fucking deal.

Re: Allardyce . . .
Yesterdays Telegraph had a brilliant article about Newcastle's complete and utter lack of trophies. They have not won a domestic trophy for precisely 52 years. That means the majority of their fans won't have been born the last time they had silverware anywhere near St.James.
Newcastle fans are among the least knowledgable I have ever come across. Just because Whor Kev played nice attacking football they think they are the World's experts on how the game is played. I play Gof with a couple who are still deluded into thinking The Toon are among football's aristocracy and are only 11 decent signings away from winning the treble.
Considering Southampton, Sunderland, Ipswich and Wimbledon have won trophies in the interim years and that footballing metropolis, Nottingham won the league and 2 European cups it is really time for the Toonatics to face facts, you have a lot of supporters but are not a big club. Big clubs are successful, Newcastle are a bunch of pretentious losers.

Would seem Sam without a Youri Djorkaeff or a Jay Jay Okocha
is just an average manager
Newcastle have always been guilty of buying to many attackers
I'm sure whne they buy their defenders they look 1st at whether they can attack
Even under keegan, running Man U to the last week they were leaky as but could score at will at the other end.I don't see them with the same personnel in the middle of the park to do this any longer

Re: Allardyce . . .
There's a lot of rubbish written above regarding the club and city.
For starters, Newcastle does has a good nightlife, fair enough, but not since the Dyer and Bellamy days have I seen a Newcastle player on the "lash", and if they did surely they wouldn't have one of their flash cars parked outside!
The problems at Newcastle doesn't stem from the fans, as many people like to point out incorrectly on these type of forums, it comes from bad mis-management of the club from the boardroom for over 50 years, bar one or two bright spells under Sir John.
Big clubs win things as someone pointed out above, but then again winning the league cup once in the last 100 years (Boro) or Wimbledon winning the FA cup in the last 100 years doesn't make these clubs bigger because they have won something recently while Newcastle's wait continues.
Big clubs, have history, tradition, a large fanbase. Recent success doesn't make a big club! You can be a big club and still remain unsuccessful, just ask Man City, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, all big clubs who haven't won anything for a long time.
And for those who don't live in the area or support Newcastle, don't believe everything you read in the press, the fans are disappointed with Sam, but the calls for his sacking are from a minority. See the main page on the fan's website
I personally think Sam was the wrong man for the job, as did the majority of fans. For one major factor the type of football he choose his teams to play is terrible to watch, it's tough watching the long direct football when your winning, but watching Newcastle at home, punting the ball into mid air, and not having a single shot on target against Liverpool, and only 1 shot off target against Wigan, doesn't make it fun to watch.
But as long as he is the Newcastle manager he will have my support.
