My PC has a decent DVD rewriter that I have only ever used to burn CDs, but now I want to use it for its main purpose and to copy some DVDs I have. What software is best to download to use it with and is it straight forward. I have Nero that I use to copy CDs, and there IS a DVD section in that, is it any good?
Over to you whizzkids

Yeah Nero will do it. But sometimes it's better to rip with DVD DeCrypter and burn with Nero for .... erm .... "technical reasons".

DVD DeCrypter will copy the DVD to your hard drive as a DVD.
Its pretty simple to use - insert DVD then DVD Decrypter does its thing, press a button and it copies the DVD to your Hard Drive.
Then in Nero select 'Make your own DVD-video' and then click 'Add Video files' select the DVD .VOB file and follow Nero's prompts.
Of course Nero can do it all for you. Go to the Copy & Backup menu and simply select Copy DVD and follow Nero's prompts. Try this way first if you are a newbie.
DVD DeCrypter is no longer legally available for distribution so you'll have to google.

Googled for last 15 minutes, you're spot on, no downloads available, the few that ARE available are 'banned' by my PC with virus alerts flashing when I attempt to download.
Oh well...............

As Jacques says Nero's DVD Disc Copy feature is fine if no 'issues' with discs and you can verify the copy is readable.
I don't know how new / fast you PC is but I suggest you don't set the burn speed higher than 8x.
My PC is a P4 2GHz and IDE drives. It can only just do 8x so I keep to 4x for reliability.
I use DVD shrink a lot for copying even when discs don't require shrinking and it is easy to use.
(Shrinking is reducing file size - and quality - of a dual layer DVD to fit on a single layer).
What version of Nero do you have though?
Last version of DVD shrink is 3.2 and no longer updated.
Version 6.6.0.14 is fine ( can be downloaded from ) and I think up to 6.6.0.18 OK but not newer releases.
