Nero burning problems

A question for the technobods amongs us:
I've recently (for the first time) been playing around with Nero on my PC and have found that sometimes, on the burned disc, during playback on a regular stand-alone DVD player I get a form of picture distortion that I can only describe as the "Venetian blind effect".
By that I mean distortion in the form of perfectly straight, horizontal lines that result in smooth contours becoming kind of "stepped".
Sometimes the effect is absent completely, sometimes it occurs just a little bit and at other times it's quite pronounced.
It doesn't render the footage unwatchable by any means, but I'd rather it wasn't there - and it happens only on discs that I've burned on my PC, never when I burn onto a disc on my stand-alone DVD burner.
First of all - does anyone know what I'm on about, and secondly, what causes it and is there any remedy?
Any tips would be gratefully received.
