England were bloody awful - again. They can thank their lucky stars they were playing against a good but lacking in direction Italy side. In fact Italy out scored England in the second half.
Italy 19, England 23.

15 players but not one leader... that's the biggest problem.
The World Cup winning side didn't just have Martin Johnson, but players around him like Dallaglio, Jason Robinson, Mike Catt, Jason Leonard and Richard Hill who were all born leaders.
The current side are lacking in direction, and I don't know if Brian Ashton is sending out mixed messages or what, but they really seem to have no idea what the game-plan is. Under any form of sustained pressure they run around like headless chickens and fall apart. Not what you'd expect of a team who were World Cup finalists a few months ago and reigning world champions before that.

Always like watching Italy. Limited but game for a good game. At least they played with passion

Brian Moore got really angry when commentating as England kept on kicking away possession.

Scraped the win but very poor. Apparently Ashton and the forwards coach (John Wells) don't talk to each other which might explain why the 'tactical discussions' at half time seem to have such a profound effect!
Any other team in the Six Nations against them and England would have lost in the 2nd half. ...... Again.
