A Fire Brigade Union report says that violent attacks on fire crews responding to emergency calls are on the rise ? despite Government data and claims to the contrary. The FBU reports an increase of 15% last year alone ? while government ?statistics? showed a drop of 68%! The Fire Brigade Union claims they are now routinely abused, assaulted, stabbed and even shot at!

Clearly one side is massaging the figures, if not indeed blatantly lying. And for my money it?s the NuLabour government who are lying ? because why would the FBU lie? They are in no way affiliated to any rightwing interests or organizations. They are a union, and unions by their nature are leftist. So if they are suggesting that the leftist Labour government is misrepresenting the statistics then one can only deduce that there is something in the FBU?s claims. Which then inevitability leads us on to thinking that ? ?Hey, if the government are lying about this, maybe they are lying to us about all sorts of other stuff ? like the general crime figures, for instance'.

When I was a lad attacks on fireman, ambulance crews, doctors and nurses etc, were simply unheard of. Something has changed in the intervening period - though I won?t say it?s solely the fault of any one particular government. But it is the fault of those in the public sector who seek to excuse, tolerate, and respect the ?rights? of the morons who perpetrate this kind of shit without forcibly requiring them to reciprocate that respect. I?m sure you can draw your own conclusions as to who these failed public sector fuckers are and which type of government they cleave to.

Having attended many FBU meetings, they are more communist if the literature available on the stalls, and the fact the address each other as 'comrade' when speaking from the platform, is anything to go by.

But I believe them over the government.

Not being a great fan of unions, I still believe the FBU figures over the NuLab spin.

NuLab have had a decade to sort this disgraceful problem out and they've done precisely nothing. They're probably waiting until a fireman is murdered by the vermin - but that of course is too late.

Well i think no one here actually believes our current government.

So i would go with the FBU ,and also Heard the same from the horses mouth ,as i have a couple of colleagues who are firemen.

Yeah, like I'd believe a politician.

Might have known wzr would stick his nose in, I was in the fire service for 27 years & during that time saw a marked deterioration in respect for the emergency services in general, I have been on many shouts where we were subjected to attacks by gangs of youths throwing bricks & other missiles, WHY?
The most annoying/worrying aspect of this is the inability to confront it, any firefighter who retaliates would face a discipline charge with almost certain suspension & very likely dismissal, it is so bad in some areas that the FRS will only respond with police support.
Come on wzr get off your high horse, stop trying to score points of officer dibbs & accept that even your cosy world of teaching is becoming ever more hazardous, who knows you may just have to confront it yourself one day, I gaurantee you will not be so brave then.

The FBU is what most people would call Communist controlled, Dibbs.

They are the ones who lie.

Looks like Warren and the good colonel are saying you and the Fire Brigade Union are spinning a yarn, b217bravo. But one has to wonder how it is they know better than a real fireman, like yourself? Do you think they?ve now expended any remaining credibility they had?
