Socialist Sheridans ? Taking The Mick?

I see those piously progressive Socialist Workers, the Sheridans; have now been charged with perjury. If you recall they sued the News of The World over allegations of decadent debauchery, drugs, and champagne quaffing in top Scottish hotels. The jury took the Sheridan?s part ? presumably simply because they were an attractive charismatic couple ? and the judge awarded them 200,00K against The News Of The World. Tommy Sheridan made an Aitkenesque ?Sword of truth? speech on the steps of the court house and his Mrs, Gail Sheridan, pimped and preened in front of the camera more outrageously than any attention seeking wannabe on any twatish talent show you?d care to mention.
The Sheridans made out they were humble socialists, with no concern other than for the downtrodden workers of Scotland. But like many Socialists before them (Swiss Tony springs to mind) once they got a taste of the good life it consumed them. They wanted more. Well, fair enough, so do millions more. But instead of coming clean and saying that they had now seen the light and that Socialism was far to dour, po-faced and tedious for them, they continued with the pretence. And while their supporters were slaving away at humdrum, minimum wage jobs, they were living the high life of a Roman Emperor!
So, are all progressive policy spouting Socialist MP?s susceptible to the Champagne and cocktail party lifestyle? Apart from Dennis Skinner, are they all wanky fuckers who are taking their supporters for a ride?

The libel trial verdict was a joke, and that's the opinion of someone who thinks the News of the World is a poisonous rag. It came down to who the jury believed: Tommy and his inner cabal, including wife and daddy-in-law who provided alibis and the little nugget that wee Tommy's only vices were sunbeds and Scrabble, and dozens of others---most of whom had no reason to lie on oath.
The fact that the legal chiefs in Scotland ordered a police inquiry into what had been a civil suit demonstrates what they thought of the verdict. Folk hero status notwithstanding, no one knows how he managed to pull it off.
Where you get politics, you get the illusion of power---and that is a huge aphrodisiac to some. And for someone who looks like Prescott or Mellor, there's no way they'll say no to some totty offered on a plate. Sheridan's ego meant he fell into the same trap. Once there, and undiscovered, I suppose the temptation is to see just how dangerous you can make it---the thrill for some politicians (Mark "soiled rent boys' undies" Oaten, for example).
We'll see where this leads in the next few months.
However, I hope the jury in the trial to come don't see this, or he'll get off with a huge sympathy vote:
embarrassing mum

Well, Dibbs, as you will know, they are anti-Labour Communists with the usual Communist taste for the high life.
Socialists- as you well know- aren't like that.

Dibble, in answer to yor last question, no not at all. Tommy Sheridan is a deeply vain man, yes is suppose he carries a certain amount of charisma as you call it, and in splitting the socialist vot in Scotland at the Hollyrood election he deserves credit in proving a common acuuring rule taht socilist are at each others throats most of the time when the right are generally united. I am in truth a socialist but have always been rather skeptical about Sheridan, especially his actions during and following this court case. In short he is a randy little pish stain jobby, in result of his own self regard as heir apparent to Arthur Scargill splitted the socialist vote, and thus ensured no Old Labour representation in the Scotish Parliment.

Being Dutch I have no idea who the Sheridans are or what they have done. But I do know that being at each other's throats is not a socialist prerogative. In the Netherlands it is the right-wing liberals that have recently split into three parties, at war with one another. But every other party that matters in the Netherlands: the christian democrats, the socialists, the social democrats, the greens, the left-wing liberals and the Christian Union, had their fair share of quarrels and partitions during the last twenty years.
Being at each other's throats is what politicians in general do, not what only socialists do.
(If you want to know where I stand: I am a liberal, but not a member of any party.)

That is a classic link Carac.
Sheridan keeps a straight face, but you just know he's praying the Earth will swallow him.

All poiticians are the same colour underneath with notable exceptions like Tony Benn. Greed, narcissism and sociopathy are all prerequisites for political success in every party. Stiring 'em up by thieir policies.

It's the way he refuses to make eye contact with anyone, for fear of the pity he might see.

This is a classic find by you - PMSL
Was watching an old Billy Connolly show last week where he does the
pub singer bit. Sheridan's mum reminds me so much of that.

I can't take any credit----BBC Scotland show clips of it whenever they get the chance. Some kind of payback, I suspect
