If you want something that looks the business and don't mind O2 then it's neat enough.
Personally, I'd wait until the second generation of iPhones are released. By then, there'll be better wi-fi coverage in public (if not it should have 3/4g) and may be available on more than one network.
Basically, it's an expensive toy right now.

A recent article suggests the next iPhone will be introduced this year, in the States. I'd hazard a guess that it'll be available for Christmas in the UK.
Because the iPhone uses the Safari browser, and real internet access, you'd be mental to use old gprs speeds like it has now.

I commented on the iPhone here -
Regarding 'deals'. There are no deals with the iPhone, it costs what it costs. Apple is the sole manufacturer and distributor, while O2 is the sole carrier. The beauty of this arrangement is that there is little downward pressure on margins. Apple can produce a high quality, uncompromised, piece of technologically advanced kit and also a healthy profit that can be reinvested in R & D to develop ever cooler, ever more advanced gadgets. They don?t have to go down the bargain bucket, 'value for money' route that frequently leads to mediocrity.

Hello Cate
Iphones are only available on O2 at present and don't have a universal faccility to use other network sim cards. They are also only available on pay monthly contracts.
I'm with the others on this.I too would wait until the new batch of Iphones come out.
I'll just stick with my Samsung U600 for now.It has a quality camera and lot's of other features like built in screensavers/wallpapers of Frank Lampard,John Terry and Joe Cole, which might appeal to the female buyer !wink!

Cate, buy one. Officer Dibble's linked review is by and large spot-on. I signed up for the minimum monthly payment, 35 quid, and my talk time has been increased from 300 mins to 600 mins since then. The thing about Apple is that when ordinary people buy one of their products (by which I mean, people who aren't gadget freaks and tech-heads) they have this strange kind of epiphany. They suddenly realise what all the fuss was about -- and they become disciples. The products are beautiful and, certainly in the case of the iPhone as Dibble said, instinctively easy to use. Plus they've just introduced a 16MB model for just a little more than 300 quid. This is INCREDIBLE value for money. Set aside other mobile phones, people think "Ooh that's a bit pricey". But when you've got one you can't help playing with it and using it all the time. It's like an expensive piece of clothing that you were cautious of buying in the shop but now treasure and wear all the time. And besides the features, the superb audio quality of phone conversations and the sheer beauty of it, it feels just fantastic dropping into your trouser pocket. Like this perfect slice of marble just plonking down in there. If I were you I'd get one right now.

Got one. Easy to unlock at the moment (under 5 mins, simple software job) if you don't mind voiding your warranty (the software also resets it to Out Of Box status if you need to return it for a hardware fault) and/or want to keep you current number/provider/price plan.
Great bit of kit. Don't have to take my laptop out with me now.
