American VHS.

I'm going to purchase a film that's on American VHS using the NTSC system instead of the European system (Pal). My question is, is there a way over here that I can get it transferred onto DVD and playable?
Answers gratefully received.

Yes it can be done and several companies offer this service at a price - search the net or look for a local shop acting as an agent for a transfer company.

Can you not get it on DVD from America then it will play on any multiregion DVD player - or unless heavily encripted it is easy strip region coding on your PC to create region free DVD.

Most 'Modern' VHS players will playback NTSC in a bastardized, yet fully watchable, version of PAL

I copied a NTSC video tape last month onto a DVD-R disc, and had no problem at all.
ALL new modern video players have dual PAL/NTSC playback, so you'll be ok

Thanks to all. Now I'm going to go bi-polar.
