Since that geezer from the BBC took over it is a little bit better for example ditching Corrie from weekends and moving the ITV news forward half an hour but it is still basically popularist shit, ref for example the X-factor and Ant and Dec.

I don't care what they put on 1, 3 or 5, as long as they have some decent stuff on 2 or 4 now and again.

What do you think ITV should broadcast at weekends?

ITV? It used to have similar cultural integrity to the BBC. But it?s since become the de facto chav channel. Pandering to the lowest common denominator and populist vacuity is one the main reasons civil society is now under siege.

They've moved Emmerdale and Corrie from Sunday evenings.... and replaced it with further doses of lite trite entertainment.
Tragic.

To be honest, that's why John Reith opposed the formation of ITV in the first place---he feared it would pander to the lowest denominator.

There was a time when Granada produced quality dramas, and ITV was worth watching. When World In Action, This Week et al were hard-hitting programmes of investigative journalism. Now, ITV is the channel of Ant And Dec, The X Factor, Jeremy Kyle. Says it all really.

As far as I know, they never repeated them. Roy Marsden was brilliant.

The point of ITV was a fusion of quality news and current affairs with very 'working class' friendly light entertainment. But their drama had balls- their comedies were memorable and the children's TV superb.

And now look. Chav hell as, under Grade, they emerge from just seeking the underclass/uneducated audience and they realise what a collapse in society they have assisted in.

Grade was brought in- on his own terms- after the shareholders effectively sacked Charles Allen, the caterer turned accountant who broke up Granada and took ITV downmarket in search of just money. He was sacked because the advertisers did not like or want him, and made this perfectly well known to the independent Directors.

What is Allen doing now? Leading the Global Radio consortium to take over GCap. He owns the former Chrysalis stations of Heart and Galaxy- GCap simply owns the main city stations near you.

Watch him do to radio as he has done to TV. Bastard.
