All this "cheeky chappy Scouser" image (re: myth) that the scallies like to play on is just bollocks.

Liverpool is the only city I've ever visited in which I almost got dragged into a fight with a stranger simply by walking down the street minding my own business - once for accidentally brushing against some bloke, and once for allegedly looking at some other geezer "in a funny way".

On both occasions I pretended not to hear the challenge and just walked on by, thereby (thankfully) defusing the situation.

Not unusual for the UK you might think, but that was twice in two successive visits, in the city centre and in broad daylight - not at chucking out time in some rough part of town on a Friday night.

100% agree, Scousers use this image to portray themselves as lovable scallywags.........trust me, they are not.

i agree that the current news it awful and where ever in the country that would of taken place it would only bring shame to its neighbours!
I have to stand up here and make some kind of protest!
Having been raised in liverpool i must say i've never been attacked or in a fight, Yes there are good and bad areas, as there are every where, i was brought up in nice areas attended nice schools and and can only say that i'm kind of used to the northern way of life up here.
When i go to london for castings or shoots its like another country to me, the attitude people have are very unfriendly hardly anybody acknowledges eachother.
Everybodys rushing past you, at you, i'll be honest the coldness of the tube journeys scares me. If u get a train or bus in liverpool u can guarentee that the person next to you will start chatting away.
Anyway my point is yes the incident is tragic and committed by those who are scum but to tar a city with their behaviour is unfair.

I think 'cockerneys' fall into this catagory too. 'Lovable rogues' they're not.

Don't all major cities have good & bad areas?

Name me one major city that doesn't have it's slums.
