Brave man, excellent film as well

This is an example of great cinema in the 80s - Killing Fields, Salvador, My Beautiful Launderette, Dance With A Stranger, Prick Up Your Ears and may others. Why is it when the 80s is selectively remembered the films that tend to be celebrated are Ghostbusters and things of that ilk ? Is it because many of these films were politically committed, whether with a small or large 'p' and that seems to have been factored out of contemporary culture ?

No - populism will always form the most immediate focal points when looking back at any culture. Plus cinema wasn't quite as widespread as it these days, so simply making peole aware of the film was a touch harder perhaps.

btw - aside from TKF, which was a pretty high-profile release, the films you list largely found their audience on home video. Which, from a business perspective, was possibly the most important development in eighties cinema.
