Looks like Ofcom feels the same way about these and similar channels that we do, and have an ultimatum: go subscription or be closed down.

Er- that's subscription, I think?

I understand OFCOM "protecting" us from the rip off quiz shows but I am not so sure exactly what its "protecting" people from by doing it to the adult shows. Most peoples complaints seem to be they dont see enough fleash which is OFCOM's fault in the first place. If they allow stronger material on the channels as a result of the change I would say its a positive change if not then I reckon the channels will shrivel and die which would be a victory for the mediawatch cretins.
You can already set your skybox to lock certain channels you can even make the adult channels not even appear. Surely people should be able to use their own intelligence and accept resonsibility for their own actions, nobody makes them phone in.

Using a pin doesn't mean that the channel would be subscription, rather pin protected. Some of the Babe channels thought about going down this route in 2004.

I think this (taken from the ofcom website) will mean the down fall of the Babe Channels:

"The key issue of Premium Rate Services (09* Telephone Numbers) in programmes:

In some of the Findings related to ?babe-style? channels in this Bulletin, the broadcasters failed on a number of occasions to justify the promotion of PRS within programmes. Where there is sufficient justification to promote a PRS within a programme (i.e. it contributes to editorial or meets the definition of programme-related material), broadcasters should remember that the rules on undue prominence will apply to the promotion. Programmes should not primarily be vehicles for broadcasters to promote PRS."

Issues surrounding the use of PRS in programmes are explored in Ofcom?s public consultation on Participation TV. This consultation closed on 17 October 2007. Details can be found at

Go to subscription is the best idea for the "Babe" type channels.

I don?t see why OFCOM need a crack down. A lot of these channels will disappear on their own. It costs thousands of pounds for the satellite up-link alone then there is the cost of models, ECT. There are so many of these channels now all of them will not survive. Even if they go subscription they will still be broadcasting soft porn.

Does anyone have any idea how much Babestation/Babecast (Cellcast I believe) actually make in profit?

They are in to their 6th year, so I guess they must be making some money by now.
