resize a photo using paint program an image wot is jpeg and keep it jpeg
everytime i try it it resizes it to a bitmap image but i need a jpeg image,im starting off with a jpeg but when i make it smaller it becomes a bitmap image
any idea cheers

It's ages since I've done it so sorry if I am wrong but if I recall it defaults to it.

When you save I think you need to change the save file type to jpeg using save as instead of save.

Well first of all, whenever you are working with a JPEG file NEVER work on the original.

Every time you open and save a jpeg file it can change the quality of it (depending on the settings on your editing program).

So save the original and work on a copy.

And randyandy is right.

If you edit a jpeg file and wish to save it (Save As) then at the bottom of the Save As window should be an drop down list where you can specify the file type.

I think Paint defaults to bitmap. Change it to jpeg.

Simple answer is not to use Paint. Try Paint.net (free) or IrfanView (also free) which will not only resize the image but will resample which helps keep the picture looking as good as possible.
