Just been down to Soho...

...and i have to say, the DVD (and video) selection available on R18 is, (as far as Brit films go), absolutely appaling - a few Ben Dover re-hashes, odds & sods of UK4Play, good old Phil McCav's stuff, a couple of Cathy Barry's (sorry, not a fan)and that's about it.

I know the stranglehold on the licensed sex shop trade held by a certain individual has been discussed at length, but it is also apparent that a lot of damn good Brit porn is being produced which is never seeing the light of day on Vid & DVD. Surely, there's at least 1 shop can be persuaded to stock it?

I know it's probably not that simple, but, hey ho - just thought I'd share :-)

Hmmm...

I share some of nudgers frustrations but I am not convinced
that the situation is as bad as all that. The fact is that
he has just named a substantial number of the Brit porn
producers. At least in Soho you can pick up a movie made
in the UK with british talent, things are a lot worse
outside London. At least the major producers have some
titles on the shelves, although the range is not great
when compared with the U.S. imports on the same shelves.
It's a start and definitely an improvement on where we
were just a couple of years ago.

What I found more disturbing was Phil McC's stuff either
disappearing from the shelves, or appearing in the
bargain bins. Will you even be able to buy a copy of
'Fuck Truck' in six months time ?

dumb question time....

Why is is it that the certain individual mentioned above has such a stranglehold on distribution? Is there a reason why no one else goes into competition with him?

I realise this has probably been discussed before but I have no idea what to search for in the archives to reference it!!

Yes, there are compelling reasons why nobody goes into competion with him - and one of the major ones might be that they are not half-billionaires and cannot afford to set up a national chain of sex stores.

I've said it before - the geezer in question owns about 75% of the legal outlets for hardcore videos in the UK - so if producers do not wish to sell their wares for ?2.50 a unit to him, they do not sell it. You cannot produce, certificate, promote and distribute a UK shag video with only a dozen shops in the UK that might be prepared to pay a viable price per unit. You would nowhere near recoup your investment.

Intrigued to hear that in some cases the Fuck Truck' videos have been consigned to the "bargain bin." I always had my reservations about this format due to the fact that inside 'the truck' there's not enough room to get good shots, there's not enough room to let the scene "breath" and it's difficult to light the action. I speak as one who helped finance some of the original Truck episodes - back in 98 was it Jim? Cor, that truck was a squeeze round the back of our unit! - And I speak as one who actually shot some of "The Passion Wagon" movie.

Officer Dibble.

Thanks for your views folks. As an addendum to my earlier rant, big up to the director, producer & cast of UK Student House. Great girls, well shot, good sound and a plot! (however tenuous...lol). Highly recommended, more like this in Soho and I for one would be well happy.
