Mugabe cooking the books

Well, today's the day of the so-called "partial recount" of the parliamentary vote in Zimbabwe.

23 seats are being recounted and - surprise, surprise - 22 of them had been won by the opposition MDC in the election 3 weeks ago.

It's time that the international community finally did something about this evil, racist thug, whose bluster and electroral jiggery-pokery fool no-one.

But sadly, the Western countries are all too shit-scared of being branded "imperialist / interventionist / racist" to do anything more than a bit of token hand-wringing, Russia doesn't seem to give a toss, China is actually bankrolling him and propping him up, and most of his fellow African leaders actually seem to admire the bloke.

I really feel for the people of Zimbabwe, whose despot has transformed it from a breadbasket into a basket case.

If this country had an oil or diamond supply, Britain would have intervened years ago, but as its worth fuck all, Britain won't interfere at all

Whilst it is a travesty what is going on in Zimbabwe, maybe for once, this country of ours would do well to keep its nose out of someone elses business and get their own house in order

I expect that even if Mugabe was removed, he'll just be replaced with another ruling elite, who will without delay empty the countries coffers into their Swiss bank accounts. Meanwhile the people are left to rot.

It's unreal. Mbeki and the other Southern African leaders had the chance to do something but won;t stand up to him because of his war/freedom fighting record. It's very sad that it doesn't seem to matter to us as there is nothing for us there.
