Yeah, as a kid, North of Watford was classed as North, but as I now live in Warwickshire, I'd say anywhere north of Cannock is 'north'

From Chesterfield downwards, its cockneys all the way.

The North starts from the north of the Midlands.

The South ends at the south of the Midlands.

Mind you, if you look at a map of ENGLAND then Sheffield and Manchester - which are generally thought of as "northern" cities and are at approximately the same latitude - are only about half way up.

And if you look at a map of the whole of GREAT BRITAIN (i.e, including Scotland as well) then they're both still in the "southern" half.

Personally, I tend to think of anything from Cheshire / North Derbyshire / North Lincs upwards as "northern".
