I have always liked my rock music with a bit of class and Steely Dan were one of the classiest bands around.

Anyone else a fan ?

Here are some songs on YouTube.

Bodhisattva - the guitar solo on this is staggering (takes a few seconds to get going)

Reelin in the years - another storming guitar solo

Do it again

Only a fool would say that

Peg (tribute to porn star Aunt Peg)

Aja (which happens to be the name of another porn star)

Deacon Blues

Classics all

Fabulous musicians. I was told by the salesman at our local serious Hifi shop that Steely Dan is great for testing new systems as even though some stuff is 30 years old the recordings are amazing technically and musically.

Haiitian divorce is my fave.

Having worn out a previous CD, I recently bought Showbiz Kids. Rock/blues/jazz/funk/reggae/swing all in one ultra-cool package. One of the best bands ever, and certainly one of the most under-rated.

By the way, Guilbert, did my signature make you think of the Dan?

Big Steely Dan fan for many years, I've been lucky enough to see them live on two occasions. Becker and Fagens solo stuff is worth checking out too, The Nightfly is one of the finest albums ever made IMHO

How many of you know how they got the name Steely Dan?

It is named after a dildo in the William Burroughs novel Naked Lunch.

Rather prophetic considering what web site this forum is on.

Big fan of the Dan here. Still producing classy songs, The Last Mall from their
2003 album, Everything must go, springs to mind.
Aja will always be about as close to recording perfection as you will ever find, A masterpiece.
