i started an earlier post about the inability to download images
from the site, right click is disabled and at least on my pc the
image tool that is available in IE6 does not appear.
So how do you save images or is the idea you are not meant to?
I have never came across a pay site that prevents you from downloading images - why else would you join such a site
can anybody point me in the direction of a previous article that discuss this? i`ve looked at old posts back to June but can`t see it
or is it just a windows xp IE6 problem
can you easily download picture using your pc with Win 95 98 or ME?
i have also had speed issues with the site - is this common?
btw i had a log on problem initially but the webmaster has been helpful to my many ramblings

Re: John Mason Studio Problems
Since I've been a member of the John Mason site a lot has changed to make it more secure. There's now loads of protection on the images so they can't be saved (for copyright reasons as its all John's hard work!).
I think the speed problem is a combination of things. There has been some problem with the server in recent weeks, and also the images are pretty large files.
I'm pretty annoyed about the lack of updates on the site myself. For over a month now it has said on the login page ....
"You'll find a few more new sets over the next few days, so please check back regularly"
And yet there has been nothing changed for ages. I don't really expect that from a site that costs over ?10 a month to subscribe to. To make matters worse the quality of the sets already on the site is superb and I am gagging for some new stuff! PLEASE!!

Re: John Mason Studio Problems
i really can`t see the point of a site that you can`t download the images from
whats the logic?
is this common on pay sites? its my first experience of such a thing
surely the site should carry a warning thats its read only
from my point of view i think i`ll be looking for a refund

Re: John Mason Studio Problems
I don't know what type of 'protection' the site has but javascript can be turned off in the browser
(for IE - tools/internet options/security/custom level - select scripting,active scripting disable)
or use snagit
or even the print screen button might work (bitmap in clipboard)

Re: John Mason Studio Problems
Just download the complete web page, then open the folder is all
you need to do, all the images will be seperate as will all the graphics, chuck away what you dont want.

To Protect or Not To Protect....
It's interesting to read the comments reference that images should not be right click protected etc...
WHY SHOULDN'T THEY BE SO?
As members you are paying to VIEW the material, you are NOT buying the copyright...
It's an interesting debate. Personally, as far as I'm concerned - and should my site HOPEFULLY ever take off, I will not prevent download/printing in the members area. However, I think it is for each webmaster to decide and personally I think the norm should be to protect the images... You're paying to view, thats all... if the webmaster grants you access to download, fine... but by and large I think the membership fee is to VIEW material only.

Re: To Protect or Not To Protect....
well in using pay sites for over 5 yrs this is the first i`ve come upon that doesn`t allow downloads
its all the more annoying as it doesn`t warn the subscriber
and especially so when i had a subscription last year which did
allow downloads
i can`t see the problem of an individual downloading for personal use
a site like ATK actually zips the files to ease downloads and costs exactly the same as JMS

Re: To Protect or Not To Protect....
It's not actually possible to make a site readonly - not one that uses standard html and jpeg/gif imags, etc. anyway.
Tips such as turning off javascript as given by joe king above will normally bypass any superficial attempt at protection, as will saving the complete page which was also mentioned. Downloaded files can also often be found in your temporary internet files folder.
Failing all of these, there are many programs available for downloading web sites for later viewing off-line, e.g. offline explorer. By their very nature these programs store complete web pages, including all the images, on your hard disk.

Re: To Protect or Not To Protect....
I think you may just have found a way to kill off porno pay sites! It is generally the case I think that the better sites don't protect images - they put a copyright sign on their pics - so they advertise the site if they are nicked - and get their loyal members to shout up anyone who re-posts them with the 'brand' removed.
