The government's whole anti-smoking crusade is all a load of hypocritical bollocks.

If they were that concerned about "public health", they'd ban it outright. No fannying about half-arsed so-called "initiatives".

After all, they've been quick enough to ban plenty of other things that they don't approve of (all for the plebs' "own good", of course).

But - naturally - they still want the billions in revenue that smoking brings in don't they (fully aware that smokers pay far more in tobacco tax than they take out of the NHS for treatment, contrary to the much-peddled falsehood).

So instead the politicians just tut-tut and hand-wring self-righteously - while at the same time gleefully counting the cash.

That would just encourage MORE importing of cigarettes from abroad and more pirated cigarettes that come from "poor" countries but are boxed to look like top brands.

Once something gets too expensive it always attracts the criminal element.

won't work, I buy tens to keep my smoking down, helps me regulate it ti having a smoke only when I really need it, if I buy 20 i'll just barrel through 'em cos they're there.

if they suddenly put em up to ?100 i'd just get em from the local polish guy or do a fag run to holland every so often

It should be made hard for these drug addicts.I despise their smelly clothes and their stupid chav habit.And why should they be allowed an extra hour or so off a day off to stand outside their office getting their fix while their collegaues remain at their desks.The government should increase the tax to make it less affordable and more people would give it up.Ethical retailers should not sell them.I am at a loss when I see stupid women in queues at supermarkets with a trolley load of bargain food and then order a box of 200 fags and hand over fifty odd quid..what a bunch of twats....

What I find funny about large supermarkets selling fags is....

If there is some sort of food "scare" (maybe a steak and kidney pie contains small pieces of glass or some other foreign object) then the supermarkets take them all off the shelves, stick warning adverts in the papers, and stick warning signs all round the shop.

But they are happy to carry on selling cigarettes with a huge label on the packet saying "Smoking cigarettes can kill you".

Rather strange really.

If I owned a company and people disappeared for 10 minutes in every 80 mins or so and then walked back past colleagues in task stinking of filthy smoke then I would think I'd employed the wrong person.Selfish arseholes are the smoking breed.I'm glad they no longer let their filth in public places.Oh and by the way.... sex with a smoker?....do fuck off!!!
