A very sad day, I thought Bo was a genius making guitars out of cigar boxes, and his style was very original in the way Chuck Berry was.

Didn't Bo play on alot of Chuck Berry's early sessions? I have a best of Chuck Berry CD lying around some where,i'm sure Bo gets a mention on quite a few of the tracks.
Given the recent passing of Ike Turner,this marks a very sad day in the history of Rock and roll. Two of its greatest pioneers gone...but certainly not forgotten.

Remember the film 'Trading Places' when Dan Ackroyd tries to pawn his watch at the pawn brokers? Thats Bo!!
The Clash on their first US Tour took Bo Diddley as support and it went down a storm, and admittedly, it was the first I'd heard of him, but trust me, he was original!

Saw him perform many times including what must have been his last English gig at the Jazz cafe Camden Town just before he became ill about 18 months ago, he was stunning.
Chuck Berry is doing a gig at the Hackney Empire so I might try and catch that as he wont be around much longer.

A sad loss.
I always preferred his version of "I'm a Man" to Muddy Waters' slightly different "Mannish Boy" (basically the same song but with a few changes in the lyrics and tempo)
Also worth listening to are "You Can't Judge a Book by it's Cover", "Who Do You Love?" (later covered by The Doors), "Road Runner" and "I Can Tell"
His "beat" (bomp, ba-bomp bomp, bomp bomp) was used by many artists after him (Rolling Stones, Doors, Buddy Holly etc) and his use of tremolo guitar in the mid fifties was way ahead of its time.
Steve 56... the song "Bo Didley" was actually "written" by Bo Diddley himself and was his first ever release (a double A side with Who Do You Love?) I say "written" because the basic tune is from a nursery rhyme, but the lyrics were Bo's. Buddy Holly did a cover in tribute to the man.
