i am thinking of starting up an adult website, but just wondering if any of the current adult webmasters were prepared to be honest in saying offering up how many members their site has.

What i really want to know is how much investment i may need to make and what sort of return i could expect.

This is my impute.

I think that you must ask yourself a few questions.

1. What type of site are you going to set up.

I have chatted to one chap who said he made good money from doing a 'tights site', the type Nora Batty whereas. At the time he was only the person doing this, others are now doing it, but he was the first.

A sex site does not even mean nude. You could do a fetish site, i.e. girls in rubber, or costumes.

I have seen one site that girls bath in baked beans.

You have to think this way, more unique your site is, more chance you will get people who are after that subject. Such as a site that has girls sat in a bath bathing in milk. You are bound to find this a turn on to some people. If its enough you will make good money.

If you set up a site that is just full of say blond girls, well this may be popular but, you can find lots of sites dedicated to blond girls, thus spreading the customer base thin.

2. promotion

Yes, you are going to get your site listed on yahoo, google and so on, but is this enough? Some sites now advertise in main stream magazines, but this is not cheap.

3. Membership

You must now ask how much you want to charge and when people will want to pay. Will this be weekly, monthly, yearly. Also payment. More options people have the better. If you can only pay by credit card, what do people do if they do not have one.

You may not even want to charge, you may want to set your site up for free and make the money from advertising.

Or you may want to sell all content on CD ROM, via the post.

4. Content

Some people shoot there own, others purchase footage.

You must also remember when you first set up, if you only have a few pics, people will not come back.

5. Webcam sites

I would say these are now the money makers. Now with broad band, you can leave a camera (or two) set up in a studio, and have the girls in it, and p[eople chat to them. Takes a bit of setting up, but can prove popular.

6. Costs

So how much can you make? Not an easy question as adult sites can also be expensive to run, i.e., if you are going to book a model once a month (and I would say you would have to add a model at least once a month to keep your members) then a model could cost ?200, plus film, studio, processing (you will have to find a place that will process adult stuff and do it to a good quality), as well as travel. So if you make ?500 a month, you may not have much left from this after you have paid out your expenses.

On top of this, you may wish to purchase more items, such as a better digital camera and so on.

Some sites keep the cost real low, as the girl on the site is the webmasters girlfriend or wife. This is the ideal solution in some ways as you can do a shoot almost daily, the girl knows you and so is even more relaxed, and you both can do it for fun.

To be fair to them, you did post on a Saturday, and I think a lot do not work on the weekend, lets face it today has been nice out.

You may be best posting again on monday, as well as see message boards set up for adult webnasters, this boarded is aimed at film makers and there customers.

If you are in the UK ch5 on Thursday is very good for info adult sites as well as porn.
