The author was a guy called Alan Garner, who wrote some pretty good stuff. One of his books, Red Shift, was turned into a BBC film in the late 70s/early 80s.
I can't recall seeing The Owl Service, but sure I must have done. Do recall Timeslip and Ace Of Wands from about the same time.

Ace Of Wands I watched ,Michael Holden who was in it was murdered in a pub in 1977 i dont recall hearing about that either he was hit 3 times over the head with a soda cyphon.

He also wrote the Weirdstone of Brisingarmen featuring the amusingly titled "svarts" and their "svartmoot".Amazing how you remember stuff from your childhood.!happy!

This is pretty good filmed in colour but originally shown in B&W but repeated years later in colour which is when I saw it -worth a view
