I am a big fan of Ginger Lynn's and have some of her movies from 1983-86. She made 69 films during that time apparently. Although anal sex happened very occasionally (and I mean VERY occasionally) in films, it occured in movies not seen by many people - limited distribution, minor sellers, and performed by people who weren't well known.

Who was it that made anal prolific in movies then? And what was it that made it something that people did at home? I view the 1980's as when it started to become mainstream in society, and she was the one who made it commonplace in films.

How do you measure 'mainstream' and 'commonplace' ? Lot's of behaviours are 'normal' inasmuch as they're statisically predictable eg murder, but in the grander scheme of things they're very much minority activities. I think it would be mistaken to extrapolate societal trends from skin flicks.

I don't know the answer to that question, but I find it very hard to believe that it's "mainstream", which to me would mean, at the very least, a double figure percentage.

I didnt ever think about , let alone was ever curious about anal sex until I got into the porn industry.

It was of course around for milleniums. There are paintings from the Roman era of people doing it. It's just that it's become something in recent years that most guys would like their girlfriend to allow them to do, and it is in pretty much every porn movie you see. There's hardly anyone I know who hasn't done it (male and female), including myself. Although standard sex (pussy sex) is of course the most common thing guys and girls do.

It was quite something for Ginger Lynn in the 1980's to do that - in films that were available in thousands of porn video stores across America. And Jack, you've just reminded me of the time when me and my (then) girlfriend had just tried anal sex (we were only 18) and I loved it.
Then the next day we saw a mate for a drink and for some reason he spouted of this "fact" that men who want to have anal sex with their girlfriends are actually "gay" (we hadn't mentioned that we had been at it the night before) - quite an awkward drive home as you can imagine.
