Indeed only in America. As if that's a bad thing? We all have a right to self-defence, but what use is that if we are denied the means to put it into practice? We can't all be ninja commandos, and non-lethal weapons such as Mace and Tasers can be very useful things to have. But not in this country of course. There is so little violent crime we don't need them.

The whole area of non-lethal weapons is interesting.

I can't help feeling that the culture of fear that's gripped our cities might be slightly alleviated if people felt more capable of defending themselves and of standing up to defend others. I wonder what it would mean if we all carried tasers? A hell of a lot of zapping would commence, and inevitable abuse of the power a weapon brings, but a society empowered to look after itself and to assert standards that have been eroded might be no bad thing.

Let's face it most people have a baseball bat or similar in their homes, just in case. Far safer and easier to taser an intruder. On the streets it evens up the odds a little, despite the invevitable taser-mugging, and doesn't result in a fatality. Sounds alright.

I have an image of these being used as 'entertainment' by mindless thugs to zap unsuspecting innocent people in the street. If arrested, the mindless pricks would come out with "Awwww come on maaaate. It wuz only a joke." The judge would agree and let them off with a warning and a court order that they only be allowed to own one Taser gun each from then on.

I cant wait.

really!! I don't know a single person who keeps a bat or anything similar 'just in case'. I think if i lived in such an area where i felt this necessary i'd move pdq

Do you seriously think muggers would pay good money to buy a taser when a 99p kitchen knife does them fine? Seeking to disarm criminals by disarming the law abiding majority never works. When you think about it, it can't. By definition, the only people who obey the law are the people who don't break it.
