Tourettes Syndrome

My postman has Tourettes, he has the most profound form of it so as well as having the Tic's he also has Coprolalia which is the swearing as well.

He was telling me (amongst calling me a Cunt and a Wanker) that the Post Office often move him around as residents often make complaints about his condition and will constantly move him rather than offend people.

What do forum members think of this? is this the right thing for the Post Office to do?

I could imagine the posties reaction if a dog bit him as he was posting a letter !laugh!

How about establishing him on a round in an area in which swearing is commonplace ?

I thought all posties were moved around these days? I know ours changes every few months.

He has a harmless condition beyond his control and to treat him differently is to pander to ignorance as well as being possibly illegal.

Maybe it would help to put his behaviour into context for those on his round who likely have no experience or understanding of Tourettes. Perhaps his employers could allow him to post an explanatory leaflet. And if there are still those who can't accept him as he is, they should be made to lump it.

They should just sack the fecker. I don't believe this condition actually exists for any other reason than for allowing miscreants an excuse for their unacceptable behaviour.

Hungwell, we might as well cut research budgets, close down the journals, and just refer to you when expert medical opinion and judgement is required because it's your beliefs that hold sway.

Well, it's a new psychoanalysis on the condition: that they're just making it up so they can go around fobbing everyone off with obscenities!

Why didn't Freud think of that?
