The 'jail' on Big Brother....

Is it within the law to incarserate people at the discretion of the programme makers? To just decide, over some trivial point, to lock people up for as long as they want to, and at any time of the day or night, is not something permitted at law to be done in the UK, I am sure. Also, they are never told how long they will be in there for so they can't mentally prepare for it from the moment they are sent in there.

There was talk once of making all the housemates pay Council Tax for the three months they were on the show as it is officially their residence for that time - this proves that this place goes under the same rules as any other residence in the land. If I had tenants in a property I owned, I couldn't just jail them could I? And as every square-inch on the country comes under the juristiction of the Police and the Courts, the programme makers would surely not be able to legally do this. What do other people think?

I would imagine that the programme makers endrmol made the contestant aware of this "jail" they are doing this year, presumably these vacous fame seekers thought this was fine and dandy, as long as they were on the telly, of course.

Are you a dolt? They're not in jail as they can leave the house at any time.

Yes, they CAN leave anytime they want to but while they stay in the house they run the risk of being locked-up in the jail for maybe an hour, maybe 6 hours, maybe during the day or during the night, all because of something very minor.

Where will it end? Maybe the programme makers should just go all the way and physically punish the housemates! Tell them to bend over and get their arses beaten with canes - and this all be ok because the programme makers can do WHATEVER they like!

is it not just a glorified naughty corner? On second thoughts that is, I haven't watched any of it for years, there always brining in attention seeking gimmiks. A Big Bruvva jail didn't suprise me, but then again...

Just because someone can leave something whenever they chose does not make it acceptable for people to treat them however they like when they are there. A tenant could move out of a property anytime they like, so does that mean it's ok for the landlord to abuse them while they are living there? Could a man treat his wife like shit all the time, even lock her up in a small room in the house for a number of hours each day, and it all be completely fine because she can always leave him? I think not!

Bloody hell..... You seem to have problems distinguishing between real incarceration and a game show where everyone's there voluntarily.

A husband locking his wife up isn't the same as 'pretending' to be locked up.
