The fact that MPs have just voted to keep the John Lewis list and their generous allowances, and have arrogantly rejected any form of external auditing, should be confirmation (if any were needed) that politicians in general AND OF WHATEVER POLITICAL HUE are just a bunch of self-serving, nest-lining twats who are totally detached from the real world and from the concerns of ordinary folk.

This morning - just out of interest - I googled the "expenses and allowances" of the (Labour) MP who represents my consituency in the UK, and found that in 2006/07 she claimed a total of GP 144,099 - a staggering sum.

Multiply that by the total number of MPs (635 is it?) and you get a figure of GBP 91,502,865 - an even more staggering sum, and all funded by the taxpayer.

Okay, some will claim less than that, but others will claim more - so taking say GBP 90,000,000 as a rough ball-park figure probably isn't too wide of the mark. It wouldn't surprise me in the least of the actual figure was to be much higher.

But it's not just MPs - local and district councils are a right fucking gravy train as well (the "expenses and allowances" of your councillors is where your a lot of your Council Tax goes, in case you were wondering).
