This is a topic that's causing uproar in Yorkshire atm.

Harry Kewell last night completed his transfer from Liverpool to Turkish side Galatasaray.

Kewell has enraged Leeds United fans by moving to the city where 2 Leeds fans were brutally murdered in 2001,whom Kewell was playing for Leeds against Galatasaray.

Should of Kewell agreed to move to Istanbul?.It would be interesting to hear peoples opinions on this issue, especially diplidocus and strypeysydney, who i believe are Leeds United fans.

Footballers go to clubs that are willing to pay them. Other issues seldom feature in their decision-making.

Why should fans expect a higher ethical awareness of players? The fans seldom show such awareness when their club or is taken over by, or receives a cash injection from, dubious businessmen or consortia with dodgy backgrounds? Leeds have Master Bates in their closet, after all, and more prominent clubs than Leeds have much more shady figures funding them.

In this case, Kewell doesn't strike me as being someone that would let the history between the clubs get in the way of moving.

Unfortunately I think Harry Kewell has become such a joke figure over the last 5 or so years with his catalogue of injuries ... but injured or not I don't think he was going to get another game at Liverpool anyway.

I think he figured to make a fresh start it would be better moving to another country and another culture. I hope he does well for Galatasaray as I believe they are in the Champions League this season and he might actually play some football.

I think it's nonsense that people give a toss where he plays, how long should people drag up the past for and how far should you take any grudge

the guys were killed by thugs, not the football team

I wonder if the moaners would start suggesting I should never go on holiday to Turkey or eat kebabs!!

personally i've not met any Leeds fans who care

to be honest kewell has done so little in the last few years im suprised that anyone is intrested to be honest. he doesnt strike me as someone who has any moral issues regarding a move. and also to be fair i can imagine they offered him the most money as far as his contract goes.

As Diplo points out, the killings were nothing to do with either team's players.

Leeds fans are amongst the most violent in the UK; they've been happy to dish it over the years. They're bleating doesn't sit well for me. It was a tragedy for the families concerned, but that's it.

Anyone involved in violence using the pretext of football is a moron. They're not supporters, they're just scum.

As if that has any bearing on the matter whatsoever - unless of course Liverpudlians are racist towards Turks, but I suppose they are.

well, Kewell sullied his talent by leaving Leeds where he was an excellent player.
I can see his wife, Sheree Murphy, kicking off that she won't be uprooting to go to Turkey just like Crouch's squeeze, Abi Clancey whining that Portsmouth isn't cosmopolton enough for her.
Whatever games these players compete in, I can see only one thing, a couple of personal break ups!!
