Just been chatting to a colleague who'se Australian.....interesting to note his comments on his labour government in Australia. Since there return to power last year from 16 years of conservatives they have:

increased direct and indirect tax

put new tax on business

Spending more than tax incomes

increased the minimum wage

started a massive public sector investment.. ( no not just nurses and teachers but administration staff...

But the one thats really tiped the scales is:

They have signed up to the human rights charter and already allowed in 20,000 Sudanise....by way of a starting point.........

All sounds very familar ??????

"things can only get better !!"

!sad!

And a Conservative government will either:

a. Make Ted Heath look like a dangerous Thatcherite

or

b. See Scotland and Wales down the road- leaving England with no water for its Western regions [Welsh in origin] or oil or nuclear defence pods [Scots].

I have a feeling that the Conservatives will find that a Government adhering to Mail/Express 'principles' of hate and fear will be a veritable hell after a few months or years.

Socialist governments always tax and spend until the money runs out. They just can't help it, it's what they do. Deep down they really believe they can manage an economy and run our affairs better than we can, if only they can take enough of our money to do it. This is despite the fact they have no qualifications whatever to do this, only their dogma. Tony Blair was an unsuccessful barrister, Gordon Brown a college lecturer who wrote a thesis about trade unionism in early 20th century Scotland. Neither of them had ever run a business, had to chase sales, make sure they got paid for their sales, made sure they had the money to pay suppliers, make the payroll and pay the bloody tax man. But they just know they are right, so they tax and spend until it all turns to shit. Which it always does, because they are useless cunts.

I am an ex Labor supporter here in Oz and while that list of Labor 'achievements' so far has a few errors, its not far wrong.

Coming from a trade background, I was surrounded by Labor supporters and taught that they would always look after the ordinary worker far better than the conservative side of politics. To an extent, they did but it came at the price of slowly strangling the economy with union dictated policy which always seemed to end in closed down businesses and high unemployment.

The conservative party in Australia is, ironically, called the Liberal Party and while they tend to favour business I have always finished up better off when they are in power. I also like the underlying philosophy of the Libs which seems to maintain the basic foundations of the country's infrastructure and let the people get on with their own lives. Labor seems to imagine that everyone looks up to them for inspiration and guidance. Thus, we now have almost daily announcements of ever more committees, focus groups, investigations, reports, working parties, summits, special advisers etc etc. Yet after 8 months of the new Government all we have is a pointless 'appology to the stolen generation' and a stalling economy as business confidence wanes.

Deano ! Spot on .......just as my colleague has said.......its a shame because Australia with its wealth of natural resources could have a unbelievable balance of payments but I expect the labour government will spend every penny or cent ! and more over the next few years !!!

The Australian Labour party inherited a great encomony, as the UK did, and they will spend and spend and spend and spend.....................and then leave office, one day, just as the UK labour party will, with the country in a complete mess.......!

And this from that awful 'rag' the Daily Mail today..

"Unpopular Brown stays away from by-election as new poll shows three-quarters of voters think he is a 'loser'.... you gotta hand it to him, he knows how to keep a lowlife profile.

This of course refers to the scottish by election, which sir Alec of salmon thinks he can win.

When exactly was it when interest rates were last in double figures here? Can't quite remember.

And no, I am not defending the Labour Party; just suggesting that the alternative may not be quite as rosy as you guys seem to think.

Lets be honest, this country is basically conservative by nature, for the last century 3/4 of the time we have been governed by a conservative government, it's hard to equate this current bunch with anything remotely socialist, but whether they like it or not every govenment has it's day, especially with a weak leader, I would be astonished if the current government got a fourth term, society needs a change every so often. it's not personal.

Brown=fucking numpty.

Agreed. But expecting anything better when, basically, they are all eating from the same trough is naive, to say the least.

Nah, I really dont expect anything better Carac me old mucka, but sometimes a change is a break from the same old same old, at least there will be someone different to moan at. I dont know why I'm moaning, I have a good life, it makes little difference to me who is in power, I just dont like what the UK has turned into, and I'm not even sure what that is, I never feel quite as depressed when in other parts of Europe, people just seem happier and less agressive than they do here at the moment.
