freedom of information act

i want a previous employer to disclose what information they hold on me.do i need to make this request under the freedom of information act or the data protection act?they are not a government body.is there a fee for this?if anyone has previously done this i would be grateful if you can tell me how to go about it.thanks in advance

I would think the Data protection act and yes they can charge a fee usually ?10.00 depending on the information required, you would need to be specific in what details you actually required ie: finacial or whatever, and they have to supply these details within 40 days of you making the request which should be made in writing and addressed to the Data Protection Officer of the company concerned !cool!
