Has a tendancy to freeze in the middle of anything. Have I got a cunty virus and how do I solve it without getting ripped off at a PC shop. Cursor just stops and nothing can make it work unless I reboot it which after 4 times in an hour is a ballache.
Suggestions welcome and appreciated

Hi Ace, Turn your comp off by just holding down the off switch until there is no disk activity, then re-start it in safe mode by pressing f8 after you turn it back on, choose the option to start in safe mode with networking, then open your browser and download spybot search and destroy, make sure you update it as well, just follow the instructions, and let it completely scan your comp, see what it finds and then click on fix selected problems, I have to go out now but will be back on later this afternoon if you need more advice..good luck

This can happen if the PC is getting too hot. It just stops working.

Assuming it is a desktop PC.....

Is there plenty of room round the PC case to let the air circulate ?

If it is a few years old it may have dust and fluff round the fans and heat sinks so it gets too hot.

Take the PC case outside, remove the side or sides of the PC case, GENTLY dislodge the dust and fluff with a small pice of wood (lollystick, toothpick etc - NOT metal), then use a hair drier (with the heat turned off) to blow any dust or dirt out the case.

Once all the dust has been removed make sure the PC cards are all still in place, put the cover back and, wire it all back up, then try again.

Site the PC in a place where it can get plenty of air circulating.

If you have had building work in your house this could have caused a build up of dust and fluff inside the case.

Thanks Guilbert, I had this last year and had a bigger fan installed, so I doubt its that...........more like some porn I have downloaded I think, but so far, its working fine today.
Mind you, its not as hot as yesterday..............yet

Never underestimate the possibility that its related to your PCs hard drive
The registry fills up with all sorts of debris if you dont defragment, clean the registry regularly

A tune-up program can easily fix a raft of baggage thats slowing/freezing your computer
